How to Celebrate the Grads in Your Life
Collect Advice
When someone graduates from high school, college, or grad school, they’re most likely thinking about how they can celebrate the end of the school year and all of the hard work they put in. It isn’t until a month or so later that they finally start to think about what the future has in store. One great way you can celebrate the grad in your life is to collect advice that you can put together in a book for them. Ask friends and family members if they have any life advice for the grad. Once the excitement of finishing school wears off, some grads may struggle with their new situation, and they might even feel a little lost. Having a book of advice from friends and family members will give them something to calm their fears, as well as help them learn from the mistakes of their peers.
Take Them on a Shopping Date
No matter what stage of life the graduate is in, there’s a good chance that they will need to upgrade their belongings. For example, if they are graduating from high school and planning to attend a four-year university, then they will most likely need to buy things for their dorm room like decorations, new bedding, and more. Additionally, if they are graduating from college, the graduate may want to trade in their college belongings for items that are more adult.
Taking them on a shopping date will not only help them get some of the things they need for the next phase in their life, but it will also give you the chance to spend some quality time together. Spend the day getting everything they need, and maybe even make a few stops to pamper yourselves with a mani/pedi or a nice lunch!
Give Them a Thoughtful Gift
If the graduate is having a graduation party, then there is a good chance that they will receive a lot of gifts from different people, both monetary and nonfinancial. It’s customary to bring a gift to a graduation party, but if you really want your gift to stand out, then it’s a good idea to really think about what you want to give them. For example, giving them a book or a card with cash may not offer a lasting impression. However, if you give them a framed photograph of the two of you, or a journal filled with inspirational quotes, they are more likely to remember who it was from.
Put some thought into what you want to get them for graduation. If you are a family member, then graduation is a great time to pass down a family heirloom or something that means a lot to the family members that you share. You can also get creative with your gift and try to give them something that nobody else will think of like a scrapbook of memories or an engraved watch.
