A Guide to Throwing an Elegant Graduation Party
Planning a graduation party may seem just about as easy or difficult as planning any other party, but there are many different aspects that you have to take into account. For example, the guests at the party will most likely span many generations due to the fact that the grad will want to invite both family and friends. In today’s post, we will give you a few tips that will help you plan a tasteful graduation party!
Consider a Theme
Decor is one of the first things you should start planning for your upcoming graduation party, but if you find yourself getting stuck, then you may want to consider giving your party a theme! Having a theme will give you a good idea of what type of decorations you will need to aid the look and feel of the event. For example, if the guest of honor recently graduated from high school, then you may want to have the theme of the event be the college they are heading to in the fall! Use the university’s colors as your guide and go from there. If the graduate is headed to new state to start their first job, then perhaps use their new home as inspiration for your party!
Keep Food Casual
Unlike other parties that have a set time for people to arrive and enjoy the festivities, graduation parties are usually more casual, giving the guests the freedom to come and go as they please. For this reason, it’s a good idea to keep the food casual, or even serve an array of appetizers so that people can pick and choose what they would like to eat. If you want to make sure that your guests have options that are a little more hearty, then you can always set up a buffet of different cuisines.
Send Out Invitations
While the party itself may be more on the casual side, it’s still important to send the guests a formal invitation, especially if you plan on inviting family members. If the graduate is only inviting friends, then they may be able to get away with a social media event invite, but if they are planning to invite family members, then it’s common courtesy to send a physical invitation listing the address and time of the event.
When you send out your invitations, you should also mention whether or not the party is public or private. If the event is public, then your friends and family members are welcome to share the details of your party. However, if you’re trying to stick to a budget or keep the party as an intimate gathering of close friends and family members, then you may want to mention that the party is a private event.
Plan Interactive Activities
The goal of a graduation party is to celebrate the graduate. That being said, depending on the size of the event, the guests may not be able to spend as much quality time with the graduate as they would like. In an effort to keep everyone entertained while the grad is busy mingling and saying hello to all of their guests, it’s a good idea to plan some interactive activities. For example, create a station where the guests can write a nice message for the grad or give them advice for the next part of their journey. You can also have a few games available if the party will be outdoors, or you can set up a photo booth for the guests to take fun photos that the grad can keep in a scrapbook!
