Welcoming Your Out-of-Town Guests

When guests travel from far away to attend your wedding, they not only want to be a part of your special day, they also want to spend some time with you. Trying to find time to spend with all of your out-of-town guests may only add stress to your already busy schedule, but it’s important to make sure they know how much you appreciate their attendance. In today’s post, we will discuss a few different ways you can welcome your out-of-town guests to your wedding so that they feel appreciated, without taking too much of your time.

Have a Cocktail Hour

Unless your out-of-town guests are traveling from the other side of the globe and plan to stay for a longer period of time, there is a good chance that most of them will arrive on the same one or two days, especially if they are family members. If that’s the case, then one great way to welcome them all at once is to host a cocktail hour! Have drinks at a local bar that isn’t too far away from the hotel, and dedicate an hour or two to spending time with guests who made the trip to see you. This will help them feel welcome, and it will give them a chance to spend some quality time with you before your attention is split between all of the people attending your wedding.

Prepare Welcome Bags

If you simply don’t have time to fit in a cocktail hour with your out-of-town guests, then the least you can do is have a welcome bag waiting for them when they check into their hotel rooms. Traveling can tire people out very easily, even if they only have a short flight, and having a gift bag waiting for them can make their travels completely worth it!

Consider filling the bag with a few snacks so that your guests don’t have to eat the pricey treats in the minibar. You can even throw in the bride and groom’s favorite snacks for your guests to sample. Additionally, you may want to throw in a few essentials such as a deck of cards or a touristy keychain, as well as some painkillers and a bottle of water for the day after the wedding. While this may seem like a small gesture, your guests will love it, and it will make their stay more comfortable.

Plan Activities

For guests who arrive a few days before the wedding, make sure you have a few activities planned to keep them entertained! Perhaps you want to do a walking tour of the city to show your guests some of the places that are close to your heart. If there are a lot of kids coming to the wedding, then plan a day at the zoo! Having a few activities planned will give your guests something to do, and it will give them the opportunity to spend time with you and some of the other guests before the big day.

With all of that in mind, it’s important to find the perfect ratio of planned activities and downtime. For example, if you plan activities for every single free moment leading up to the wedding, then it can leave your guests feeling exhausted and worn out. However, if you don’t plan enough things to do, then your guests may take it upon themselves to go out and do things, making it difficult to track them down when you want to hang out with them.
