Eternity® Peonies

Few flowers carry the weight of history as gracefully as the peony. Messengers of regality, good fortune, and grace, peonies boast a horticultural pedigree extending back over 1,000 years — a tradition that speaks to the universal, enduring appeal of this fabled blossom. At Venus et Fleur, it is our pleasure to both honor and evolve that legacy with our own innovative contribution.

Our Eternity® Peonies are the result of five years of meticulous research, requiring the botanical experts at our partner farms in Japan to master how to best adapt our groundbreaking preservation process to the notoriously fickle peony flower. Like snowflakes, every peony blossom is singular and unique — effectively capturing that ephemeral beauty is nothing short of a triumph in luxury. This summer, our peony collection expands with new colors and arrangements, each one a continuation of that hard-won artistry.

First Look: The Aesthetics of the Peony Flower

Visually, peonies are in a league of their own. As beautiful and revered as roses, but with a more relaxed, dreamlike quality, peonies have sumptuous layers of dense petals that bring a sense of decadence to any floral arrangement. The irregular, wave-like shape of each petal softens their appearance, lending grace to an otherwise grand flower. Our peony flowers are sourced from Japan, where a centuries-long tradition of cultivation has produced some of the world's most breathtaking blossoms.

Sweet and complex, the peony's scent features soft, powdery, rose-like notes with base tones of deep vanilla — offset by verdant edges of crisp citrus, fresh-cut grass, and dewy green leaves. All of these sensory qualities combine to channel a soft, renewing energy, particularly when showcased in Venus et Fleur's minimalist raw porcelain vases and signature hat boxes. With our Eternity® preservation process, that feeling no longer belongs to any single season.

What do peonies symbolize?

With an especially rich cultural presence throughout East Asia, peony flowers have featured prominently in art and literature across the globe. In the delicate strokes of Mary Cassatt's Peonies and the vibrant swirls of Van Gogh's Peonies and Iris, these flowers are a natural choice for artists wishing to portray gentle beauty. In literature, peonies have served as metaphors for love, beauty, and transcendence — from Tang Xianzu's The Peony Pavilion, where the bloom symbolizes the ephemeral nature of life and love, to D.H. Lawrence's The White Peacock, where it evokes mysticism and enchantment.

What Meanings Are Associated with Peonies?

In the language of flowers, peonies of all colors communicate honor, nobility, happiness, wealth, and beauty — though each individual hue carries a meaning of its own. White peony flowers connote new beginnings and innocence, while pink peonies carry an added spirit of joy, romance, and good fortune. Known throughout history for their calming properties, peonies also send a quiet message of peace — a meaningful gift for anyone in need of tranquility.
