An Open Letter to All of the Moms in Your Life

Dear Mom,

The words “thank you” never seem like enough for everything that you do for all of the people around you. Two little words hardly live up to all of the late-night phone calls, trips to the grocery store, and the many times you went back and forth between home, work, and school. You deserve to be thanked in the grandest way possible, having it shouted from the rooftops or written in the sky. Yet, even then, it still doesn’t seem like enough.

A mother is so much more than a person who gives you life — she is more like a superhero. A mother will transform herself into whatever you need in that moment, often taking multiple different forms throughout the day. When you need a shoulder to cry on, a mother becomes that shoulder. When you’re having trouble in school, a mother will be your tutor. If you find yourself being treated unfairly, a mother will often take on the role of a protector without another thought. It’s in these moments that a mother sacrifices herself for the benefit of the people she loves, but at what cost?

Mom, there are many times where you have put your needs ahead of my own, and again, there are no words to express how much that means. However, it’s important for you to know that you deserve the world in return. There may have been times where you questioned your self-worth, you questioned your strength, and you questioned your ability to be a good parent. Everyone questions themselves from time to time, and as the recipient of all of your strength, and wisdom, and love, I can tell you that you should never give your worries a second thought.

You Are Strong

Strength is measured by much more than physical ability. As a mother, you are the pillar of what a child strives to become. Instead of running away from fights with other parents, or letting yourself succumb to the mean words you hear behind your back, you stand tall. I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to let your guard down from time to time, but when it matters most, you don’t back down. In times where the mean words and actions came from someone you love, whether it be a spouse, a family member, or even your own child, you don’t show how much it hurts, and you forgive our actions. There is no one else with strength like yours.

You Are the Best Parent

Being a parent is a difficult job, especially when faced with judgment from your own parents, as well as the other parents you have to interact with on a daily basis. Despite any criticisms that may have come your way, you made sure that your children were always your first priority. With food in our bellies and a roof over our head, you not only exceeded our basic needs, but you also taught us right from wrong, how to communicate with others, how to be a good person, and most importantly, how to love unconditionally.

You Are Worthy

Not only are you worthy of the title “mother,” but you are also worthy of the title “friend,” “wife,” “daughter,” “sister,” and so many more. Everyone thinks that their mother is the best, but you are truly one in a million. Instead of simply one day,
you deserve to have someone tell you how worthy you are each and every day of the year. It may sound like a bit much, but think of it from the perspective of your child. You brought life into the world, and while that is valiant enough, you also changed your entire world to focus on raising and caring for your children, and we sure didn’t make it easy. You are worthy of so much more than our love, and yet you have taken nothing else in return.

“Thank you” isn’t enough for all that you do, but thank you for being my mom, and thank you for raising me to be the person I am today.

Happy Mother’s Day from Venus ET Fleur®.
