From The Met to the Hat Box: The Making of Our Art Deco Print

The Deco Délicate print is our Holiday 2026 hat box: a hand-drawn illustration embossed in metallic silver on cream suede, finished with the Venus et Fleur emblem. It reimagines the motifs of New York's Art Deco skyline, and it began with a sculpture at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

What are hat box flowers?

Real flowers arranged in a keepsake box rather than a vase. Ours hold Eternity® Roses, hand-picked at peak bloom by botanical experts at our partner farms in South America and preserved to last a year, no maintenance required. The box is not packaging. It is the vessel, and it stays on display as long as the flowers do.

Which is why the print matters. A hat box is looked at every day for a year. It had to hold up to that.

Where did the Deco Délicate print come from?

From a research visit to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a symbol our Co-Founder could not let go of.

"One of the more unexpected inspirations came from a symbol I discovered on a sculpture at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It stayed with me and became the starting point for the visual language of our holiday print, bringing together my love of art, history, and design."

Seema Bansal Chadha, Co-Founder, Venus et Fleur

That symbol is the reason the print reads as older than the 1920s in places. Art Deco borrowed constantly from ancient iconography, from Egypt and Mesopotamia and the Aegean, and flattened what it borrowed into geometry. Our motif does the same thing in reverse: it pairs Deco geometry with an ancient symbol and lets the two sit together.

A house in Tokyo

The second reference is a building. Andrew Paluba, who leads our work with our partner farms in Japan, keeps returning to one address in Tokyo.

"There is a house in Tokyo I keep returning to: the former residence of Prince and Princess Asaka. Henri Rapin's interiors and René Lalique's glasswork sit alongside the finest Japanese craftsmanship. The details are extravagant, but nothing competes. I wanted that balance in the print. Our motif pairs Deco geometry with ancient iconography, pressed in silver foil on cream vegan suede."

Andrew Paluba, Venus et Fleur

The Asaka residence was built in 1933, after the prince and princess spent years in Paris and came home having decided their house would be Deco. What makes it worth the trip is the restraint. Rapin's rooms and Lalique's glass are extravagant in their materials and quiet in their effect. Nothing shouts over anything else.

That is the discipline we were after. A print that carries a lot of detail and still lets the flowers stay the subject.

How the print is finished

The illustration is hand-drawn, then embossed in metallic silver on smooth cream suede. The Venus et Fleur emblem closes it. Its palette is champagne and silver rather than gold and red, which is a deliberate departure from the usual seasonal register and the reason the box carries past December.

The same print runs through the season: on the gift boxes, on the Annual Edition Ornament at $89, and on the two new silver vessels that were hand-etched to match it.

What sizes and colors does Deco Délicate come in?

Six sizes, from a single rose to one hundred and fifty.

Roses are offered in pearl white, pure white, red and blush, with silver available across most sizes.

Is Deco Délicate available with Mixed Eternity® Blooms?

Yes. The Small Round Bois de Rose at $499 and the Large Round Bois de Rose at $699 pair Eternity® Roses and Eternity® Hydrangeas in pearl and pure white with long leaf pine, wool cypress, mountain juniper and touches of golden canella, in the same hat box.

Who delivers luxury roses in hat boxes?

Venus et Fleur delivers real Eternity® Roses in our signature hat boxes across the United States and to select international destinations. In New York City, parts of Long Island, Upstate New York and North Jersey, same-day and next-day hand delivery is available by our own courier, Sundays included.

Is Deco Délicate a good New Year's Eve gift?

The print was drawn for the glamour of the Art Deco era rather than for a single holiday, so it carries from the first gathering of the season to the last toast of the year. The roses remain long after the evening, preserved to last a year.

How long do the roses in a hat box last?

Preserved to last a year, no maintenance required. Keep the arrangement at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, never water it, and leave each rose in the box where our florists have secured it.
